Elastic Melody 1.2 is here – a big update for our three-track synth and step sequencer for iPhone, iPad and Mac. The video gives you a quick tour of the new features; below is everything that’s new at a glance.
More sound: oscillators, filter and master
- Four additional oscillator waveforms for a wider range of sounds
- New modulation options: pitch modulation, FM modulation and decaying FM modulation
- Three ways to add dirt to the filter: Creamy Overdrive, Filter Feedback and Filter FM
- A master level control and a simple volume meter
Sequencer and live automation
The new rnd shift control alters your pattern automatically with each new round. Turn it to the right to shift the pitch every 4, 2a, 2b or 1 rounds, turn it to the left to shift the position every 4, 3, 2 or 1 rounds – and double-tap it to restore the original pattern.
Automation can now be recorded live: select “Autom”, turn a knob while the pattern is playing and Elastic Melody writes your movement into the step automation. Move a knob back and forth to record a changing curve at the playhead, or hold it for about a second to set a static value and clear that parameter’s automation.
Effects
- An FX send button on all three tracks, so individual tracks can stay drier
- Ping Pong Delay as a second delay mode
- Dattorro Reverb for longer, lusher tails
- The EQ now sits at the end of both the FX and the dry signal chain
Tracks, presets and settings
- Solo now sits at the top and mute at the bottom of each track; long-press a track number to rename it
- Mark favourite presets with the new like button, spot new ones by their NEW badge, and delete, import or “Save To” your computer
- New presets by Sound of Izrael and Another Machines
- A buffer size selector, a built-in manual and the store for the optional Extra Modes in the settings
Filter Feedback, Filter FM, FM and decaying FM modulation, Ping Pong Delay and the Dattorro Reverb are part of the optional Extra Modes (in-app purchase).
Better on the Mac
Elastic Melody now runs much better on Apple silicon Macs, both as a standalone app and as an AUv3 plugin. Timing has been improved, especially in AUv3 mode, along with smoother sync for the First and Last buttons, corrected notes in certain scales and more reliable behaviour when connecting or switching Bluetooth headphones.
