Playful Macro Synthesizer for all – Desktop & Mobile!

Elastic OSC – the powerful yet easy-to-use synthesiser is now available on desktop
It’s one of the few synths available across all major platforms: macOS, Windows, iOS and Android!

Create on mobile. Continue on desktop.
Design sounds anywhere, on your phone or tablet, then continue shaping them in your desktop workflow.

Simple by design. Powerful by nature

Elastic OSC is an 8 voices polyphone macro-oscillator synthesizer based on the open-source code of Mutable Instruments Plaits. Its core idea: powerful sound design, reduced to just four main parameters: Frequency, Harmonics, Morph, and Timbre. These parameters shape the sound across all 24 oscillator models, allowing for dramatic changes with minimal effort.

In Elastic OSC, the four core parameters are mapped to an expressive XY pad, enabling fast and intuitive sound exploration. A second XY pad provides direct control over the built-in effects, making sound design immediate, playful, and fun.

Reviews & Feedback

CDM: „Elastic OSC becomes a must on iOS. It’s fun to use as an instrument in your iPad DAW of choice.“

AudioNewsRoom: „If you make music on iOS and you’re even remotely interested in synthesis beyond presets, Elastic OSC is essential.“
https://audionewsroom.net/

SYNTH ANATOMY: „Takes the Mutable Instruments (Plaits) algorithms on a wild trip. A nearly perfect app.“

AMAZONA.DE: „Trotz minimalistischem UI bietet die App beeindruckenden Sound und Flexibilität für iOS-Musikmacher.“
https://www.amazona.de

Robert Lippok: „It’s rare to see such a coherent transfer from hardware (Plaits from Mutable Instruments) to the iPad.
Elastic OSC is incredibly fun to work with from the very first minute. The GUI is really well thought out and has 24 integrated synthesis models, as well as the ability to load DX7 sound banks. Omg, so good.“

User reviews Apple Store:
„Interesting, useful, and playful synth. I love the XY pads that hide complexity and invite you to just play around and explore.“

„My new favorite ios synth!“

„I’ve been making music for 30 years, and this is absolutely the best sounding iOS synth I have ever had the privilege to experience. I am blown away, the UI, the automation, and it sounds so bubbly and warm. I have pretty much every iOS synth, and on my momma… this is the best sounding.“

MPE Update 1.3 – iOS & Android!

Elastic OSC is now also available for Android phones and tablets.
The Android version delivers the same synthesis engine and feature set as the latest iOS version (1.3), including the newly introduced MPE support for expressive polyphonic performance. With over 500 presets from sound designers like Red Sky Lullaby, Nu-Trix, Leonard de Leonard, SRVND, Another Machines, ToYaGa, and Nerk, you can dive straight into a huge world of sounds.

To celebrate the release, Elastic OSC for Android launched at a special introductory price:
just $4.99 (US) / €4.99 (EU) / £4.99 (UK) – half the price of the iOS version!

Elastic OSC 1.3 adds long-awaited MPE support to iOS. Unlock expressive control and shape sounds with polyphonic aftertouch and per-note gestures. Map Glide (X), Slide (Y), and Pressure (Z) to synthesis parameters and control them with external MPE controllers or the built-in keyboard (X and Y). As with any MPE instrument, all gestures work polyphonically, meaning each note can control parameters independently — for example different gains or timbres depending on the pressure applied to each key.

8 MPE MODULATION TARGETS

  • Frequency Amount
  • Timbre Amount
  • Morph Amount
  • Harmonics Amount
  • Engine Amount
  • Filter Amount
  • LFO1 Amount
  • Gain Amount

3 MPE MODULATION SOURCES

  • Glide (X) also called Pitchbend
  • Slide (Y) also called Timbre (CC #74)
  • Pressure (Z) also called Aftertouch

MPE support is available as a $3.99 / €3.99 / £3.99 in-app purchase.
You can already play and test the included MPE presets that come with this update (by artists like Red Sky Lullaby, Nerk, and others). However, editing MPE mappings is only available after purchasing the feature, allowing you to save them as part of your presets. A Lock button lets you keep your current MPE setup while loading other presets — so you can explore sounds without losing your preferred MPE mapping.

Future

Coming next:
Desktop versions for Windows and Mac (Audio Unit & VST3) are planned for April.

We’re planning to release a stripped-down JUCE project with the integrated original DSP code and a simple GUI on GitHub, as a way of giving back to the open-source community — may take until late 2026.
